Angel, Burford joins the Hook Norton family
Hook Norton buys award-winning brasserie
Hook Norton Brewery is the new owner of the Angel, Burford, Oxfordshire. The North Oxfordshire brewer has added to its family of pubs by buying the Angel, 14 Witney Road, close to the centre of this thriving, historic Cotswolds town.
The Angel, which is styled as a brasserie with bedrooms, has a worldwide reputation for the quality of its food and accommodation. The first and only change Hook Norton is making is to install draught beer in the bar. Hook Norton Managing Director James Clarke said: “The Angel is a fabulous addition to our estate and is a wonderful place for locals and visitors alike who want to enjoy a special meal. The Angel exudes class and quality it is the perfect place to sell our great beers." In the short term, Richard Whittle the Angel’s imaginative chef is staying at the Angel and he will continue to weave his magic with a daily changing menu prepared with the finest quality fresh meat, fish, vegetables and fruit. Chef Richard Whittle said:
“I am passionate about the food I prepare.”
The Angel has a secluded south facing courtyard and walled garden and it is an idyllic place to enjoy a meal alfresco or for people just to sit, relax, read a newspaper and enjoy a drink. The Angel has three individually styled en-suite deluxe letting rooms. The emphasis is on quality and comfort. The Angel was bought for an undisclosed sum from Jonathan and Josephine Lewis who had been running the business for seven years.
