Enjoy Hooky Dark in CAMRA’s Mild Month of May.
Hooky Dark celebration evening at Hook Norton’s Visitor Centre.
The Campaign for Real Ale says that May is Mild Month and it is encouraging people to try mild a style of beer it says is threatened with extinction.
The Hook Norton Brewery is backing the initiative and is encouraging pubs to stock its mild Hooky Dark.
The family brewer is also holding a Hooky Dark open evening for CAMRA members from 7pm at its Visitor Centre, in the village of Hook Norton on 13 May.
Hook Norton Managing director James Clarke said: “The evening will be a celebration of Hooky Dark.
“We will show how well it matches with different foods. At a recent beer and food evening at the Coach & Horses in Banbury, Hooky Dark showed that it is not an old fashioned or a beer facing extinction as it was successfully paired with modern Indian inspired spicy dishes
“And to make the evening go with a swing a band has been hired to provide musical entertainment.”
Traditionally milds are sweet, dark and relatively low in alcohol. They were often beers drunk by farm or factory workers after a hard day’s work.
Hook Norton’s mild is Hooky Dark and it can be enjoyed in many of our pubs.
Hooky Dark, at 3.2 per cent ABV, is a dark chestnut – coloured ale, crammed full of roast malt flavours, and complimented with superb dry-hop aromas from East Kent Goldings.
